Hypothetical Big 12 Expansion Team Odds: Who’s Next?

NCAA Football: Arizona at Colorado

The topic of Big 12 expansion has been hot and heavy for a couple of weeks now, with rumors swirling that a team in Boulder, Colorado could be looking to return to its roots in the Big 12.

As the SEC and Big Ten continue to stock up on some of the top brands in football, the Big 12 is trying to solidify itself as the lone conference in the next tier when it comes to future media rights negotiations.

Despite attempts from the aforementioned SEC and Big Ten, the Big 12 has survived the brink of conference upheaval and is in perhaps the best position it’s been in for over a decade as we head into the 2023-24 academic year.

With four teams headed into the conference on July 1, and a couple of suitors on the table, the Big 12 looks like an ascending league. So, who will be the next team to join? Well, the folks over at bookies.com took the liberty of creating some hypothetical odds on just that topic.

According to veteran oddsmaker Adam Thompson, Colorado is the favorite at +250, with an implied probability of 28.6% that the Buffaloes are the next team to make the jump. Just behind the Buffaloes is Arizona, at +400 (20% probability).

After the two Pac-12 schools, Memphis (+650) and San Diego State (+750) check in, followed by UConn (+850) who has had plenty of rumors of its own circling.

Lousiville checks in at +1000, followed by the other half of the four corner schools, with Arizona State and Utah checking in at +1200. The board also lists “The Field” at +800, which is an interesting note to follow.
