Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables has made headlines after his comments about Colorado head coach Deion Sanders’ approach to recruiting and his use of the transfer portal.

Venables spoke extensively about his second year at Oklahoma at Big 12 Media Days last week, and in one interview, he mentioned doing things a lot differently than how Sanders has approached his rebuild at Colorado.

In an interview with KREF Sports, Venables discussed how his version of a rebuild looks much different from what is going on in Boulder.

“I was unlike Deion. I gave guys 12 months of grace to figure it out. Here’s the three: go to class, live right off the field, and when you show up over here man you show up with respect and appreciation for your opportunity.” Venables added, “If you go 0-for-three for 12 months, you need a fresh start. So we helped 21 guys, give-or-take, find a fresh start.”

Colorado head coach Deion Sanders was trending earlier this offseason as he addressed his new team by saying, “We got a few positions already taken care of because I’m bringing my own luggage with me,” in reference to a roster rebuild.

Sanders saw a record number of players hit the transfer portal with more than 70 entries since last August. Brent Venables took his shot at Sanders and while the Colorado head coach has yet to chime in on Venables’ jab, there is no doubt that the two programs may share some bad blood in the future.
