Nick Saban Explains Why Some Teams WIll be ‘Sh*t Out of Luck’

NCAA Football: Alabama at Mississippi State

For many years, coaches across the nation feared Nick Saban on the Alabama sidelines. Now, he’s giving takes on College Football as a member of ESPN’s College GameDay crew.

On Saturday, Saban made a statement on the transfer portal era and the process of constructing a roster through the use of NIL.

When discussing the Ohio State Buckeyes and their “20-million-dollar roster,” Saban spoke up and said, “I just want to say, you guys keep talking about a 20-million dollar roster, if you don’t pay the right guys, you’ll be shit out of luck.”

The 20-million dollar roster construction is centered around names like Quinshon Judkins, Emeka Egbuka, Jeremiah Smith, TreVeyon Henderon, and many more big names. At the heart of the team is former Kansas State quarterback Will Howard, who earned the starting job at Ohio State with the Wildcats moving on to rising sophomore Avery Johnson.

Howard has quickly earned his stripes with the Buckeyes, beating out a pair of four and five-star quarterback prospects in Julian Sayin and Devin Brown.

In Manhattan, Howard recorded a total of 5,786 passing yards and a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 48-25. He also posted 921 rushing yards and nine scores during his time in the Little Apple. As a senior in 2023, Howard became the Wildcats all-time leading touchdown passes leader with 48 total in his four-year career.

Will Ohio State’s roster live up to the hype its garnered this offseason? The rest of the ESPN GameDay crew seems to think so. For Nick Saban, the jury is still out on his full stance on Ryan Day and the Buckeyes.
