Plenty of Big 12 Talent on Display in East-West Shrine Bowl
While the college football season may be over, there is still some football left. With the Super Bowl around the corner, a handful of players are still trying to rise up those draft boards by competing in different games.
The NFLPA Collegiate Bowl was this past weekend, and the Senior Bowl will be played on Saturday afternoon. But before we get there, we still have the East/West Shrine Bowl coming up this week at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The game will take place on Thursday, February 2nd at 7:30 p.m. central time on NFL Network with Rhett Lewis, Bucky Brooks, Cynthia Frelund, and Mike Yam on the call.
For those unfamiliar with these types of games, they are events used as camps with a game to end the week. It is just like a college bowl game except the practice time isn’t as long. Invited players get officially measured and weighed upon checking in before hitting the field shortly thereafter.
What makes practice so important is the fact that NFL coaches are around and get a chance to take a look at these players up close and personal. It gives players the opportunity to really stand out on their own and get some valuable reps against other NFL hopefuls. Some players will rise up while others will fall but either way, it should be a very intriguing game as there are a total of ten Big 12 players in this ball game.
Here is a list of all the Big 12 players who will be playing in the Shrine Bowl on Thursday. Atlanta special teams coordinator Marquice Williams will coach the East Team while New England offensive wide receivers coach Troy Brown will coach the West Team.
