Have you ever heard the idiom, “It’s like watching a train wreck,” used before? There are few things in life that truly captivate you and grab your attention while simultaneously being incredibly difficult to watch.
But, when something like this happens, it tends to capture the attention of everyone for a short time, and no matter how hard it is watch unfold, you simply can’t seem to look away until the conclusion.
On Wednesday, one of those instances reared its head at Big Ten Media Days when first-year UCLA head coach DeShaun Foster took the podium.
His opening statement, which lasted just over a minute, was perhaps the most awkward moment I’ve ever witnessed in a media setting.
Foster was tasked with giving Big Ten media their first-ever glimpse at the history and tradition of UCLA football, and in that moment, he froze in a painfully awkward opening statement.
“I’m sure you guys don’t know too much about UCLA and our football program, but we’re in LA. Um…” Foster froze. “It’s us and USC. We, um…I’m just basically excited really. That’s it. Any questions?”
From the very first, “How you guys doing?” to the “Any questions?” at the end, it was hard to watch, but even harder to turn away.
Of course, social media was set ablaze as soon as the video went public. Here are some of the best reactions to Foster’s unfortunate start in the Big Ten.
