The BYU Cougars will play six home games and six road games as the Cougars will be one of four new members of the Big 12 Conference in 2023.

The Cougars will open the season at home on Sept. 2 against Sam Houston, which will be in its first season as an FBS member. After that, the Bears play another home game against Southern Utah — which is in FCS — before a road trip to Arkansas on Sept. 16.

From there, the Cougars begin their first Big 12 season with a road trip to Kansas.

The Cougars then host their first Big 12 home game when they host fellow new member Cincinnati on Sept. 29. That will be a Friday night matchup.

The Cougars will play four home games and five road games in Big 12 action. Along with Cincinnati, the Cougars will host Texas Tech, Iowa State and Oklahoma, the last of which will be the first time the Sooners have gone to Provo.

Along with Kansas, the Cougars visit TCU, Texas, West Virginia and Oklahoma State.

The Cougars will not play new Big 12 members Houston and UCF, which are migrating along with Cincinnati from the American Athletic Conference. BYU has been an independent in football for more than a decade. It was last a member of a conference in 2010 when it was part of the Mountain West Conference.

Each Big 12 team will still play nine league games. But, this will be the first time since the 2010 season in which all Big 12 teams will not play each other.

Along with Houston and UCF, the Cougars will not play Baylor and Kansas State. BYU just wrapped up a non-conference home-and-home with Baylor last season.

The Big 12 Championship Game will be played on Saturday, Dec. 2, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, at a time to be announced.
