What’s it take for Petty to win a Heisman?

Baylor quarterback Bryce Petty put up some of the most spectacular passing stats in college football last season, but his passion is winning.

That became clear when he led the Bears to their first Big 12 championship.

But Baylor coach Art Briles still felt Petty was snubbed when he wasn’t among the players invited to the Heisman Trophy ceremony last December in New York City. Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston won in a landslide while Petty finished a distant seventh.

“What do you need to do?” said Briles this summer. “Win a conference championship? Check. Win 11 games? Check. Throw for 4,200 yards, 32 touchdowns and three interceptions? Check. Give me three quarterbacks in America who had better stats than that last year.”
