The words get bandied about so much they kind of lose their punch: Statement win. This was a statement win, that was a statement win. It’s to the point where teams are classifying victories in August and early September as statement wins.
Well, this one wasn’t for Baylor. It didn’t make a statement. More like an exclamation.
After digging itself into an early 14-3 hole, Baylor punctuated its trip to Norman with a resounding run of 45 straight points in a huge, historic exclamation-point win. And, trust me, I try to avoid using exclamation points at every turn of the keyboard. An old editor taught me that. But there is no denying the emphatic power of this blusterous roar.
In a stadium in which they’d never won, against the preseason Big 12 favorite, Baylor pushed around the Sooners like they owed the Bears money. Remember, this was an Oklahoma team favored by six points by the Las Vegas oddsmakers, an Oklahoma team coming off an absolute annihilation of Iowa State last week.
Ready for OU? Yeah, I guess so.
