Despite the vast majority of college football fans adamantly disagreeing with former Penn State head coach Brent Pry’s views of the ACC, that didn’t stop him from banging the drum of his new league.
After spending nine seasons at Penn State, Pry accepted a job at Virginia Tech, which belongs to a conference he believes is at least equal to the Big Ten.
“We’ve got great tradition in this league,” Pry said. We’ve got great college towns, really good coaching, and really good skills. I just spent nine years in the Big Ten, and the skill in this league is equal to or better than that in the Big Ten.
While Pry and the Hokies appear to be one of the more stable programs in terms of commitment to the ACC, elsewhere, the league has taken some hits. Florida State and Clemson, the two biggest brands of the ACC, have active lawsuits going on with their conference and have openly expressed interest in exploring options.
Pry finished his thoughts about the competitive difference in the ACC and Big Ten, saying, “I think there’s a lot, it’s maybe harder for some folks to see, but being on the inside, there’s a lot for us to be excited about as a league.”
