WVU Football Lands Two Coaches on 247Sports’ 30 Under 30

NCAA Football: Big 12 Football Media Days

247Sports has been putting together a 30Under30 list since 2017, and in the time since that inaugural list, we’ve seen those young guns rise through the ranks to become head coaches.

As 247Sports’ Chris Hummer points out, guys like Kenny Dillingham and Scotty Walden have gone on to become head coaches since that first list, making it reasonable to expect some of the names on this list to go on to lead their own programs in the coming years.

College football coaches are becoming younger and younger every year, as Hummer says nearly 100 on-field coaches this year will be under the age of 30.

The Big 12 landed just two names on the list of 30 names, and both of them will coach in Morgantown, West Virginia this season.

The first of those names (alphabetically) is Tyler Allen, who will coach quarterbacks at West Virginia this season. The 28-year-old is very familiar with head coach Neal Brown and has a bright future as a coach on that side of the ball.

“Neal Brown wasted no time promoting Allen from analyst to quarterback’s coach this offseason when Sean Reagan took the offensive coordinator job at Troy,” Hummer writes. “Allen has worked with Brown on three separate occasions – twice with WVU and once with Troy – and has garnered a lot of respect around the Mountaineers program. This is Allen’s second on-field stint after serving as Jacksonville State’s QB coach from 2020 to 2022. While with the Jaguars he helped quarterback Zion Webb to first-team all-conference honors.”

The other WVU coach on the list is also on the offensive side of the ball, with tight ends coach Blaine Stewart. As Hummer points out, Stewart held a role at the NFL level for four seasons before he came to Morgantown.

“Stewart had an excellent debut with the Mountaineers last season. Tight end Kole Taylor earned second-team all-Big 12 honors and led WVU in receptions. Taylor also helped land the No. 1 JUCO tight end in the country in Gregory Genross. Stewart, the son of former West Virginia head coach Bill Stewart, came to West Virginia from the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he worked from 2018-22 in a variety of roles, including working with wide receivers, the defensive scout team, offensive quality control and personnel.”

While not on the 30Under30 coaches list, there are several other Big 12 names to know among the support staff in this league.
