Behren Morton to Start at Quarterback for Texas Tech vs. Oklahoma State: Report

NCAA Football: Texas Tech at North Carolina State

The Texas Tech Red Raiders are making a change at quarterback. According to Texas Tech football play-by-play man Brian Jensen, the Red Raiders will start Behren Morton at quarterback in Stillwater against Oklahoma State on Saturday.

Morton becomes the third starting quarterback of the early season for the Red Raiders, who began the season with Tyler Shough, before he went down with an injury, who was then replaced by Donovan Smith.

Smith is missing the game due to an injury, according to reports, not due to performance.

Last week in a loss to Texas Tech he threw for 359 yards and two scores, but also threw two interceptions. Granted, he’s thrown seven interceptions this season and Texas Tech leads the Big 12 with nine interceptions on the season.

Morton is a sophomore who is a former four-star prospect in the Class of 2021. The Eastland, Texas native ranked as the No. 18 QB in the class, according to 247Sports. He has played sparingly in his two seasons, but was part of a three-man quarterback race in the offseason with Shough and Smith.

The Red Raiders and Cowboys kick off at 2:30 p.m. CST.
