Baylor Lands Former Duke Guard Jeremy Roach in Transfer Portal

NCAA Basketball: NCAA Tournament South Regional-Duke vs Houston

The Baylor Bears picked up a commitment from Duke transfer Jeremy Roach, arguably the best point guard in the transfer portal, on Sunday.

Roach entered the portal Tuesday night, and Baylor quickly emerged as the frontrunner for the senior guard. Baylor beat out Arkansas, Villanova, Kentucky, Syracuse and others. Roach made his announcement in a post on Instagram.

He started 106 games in four seasons at Duke, earning third-team All-ACC honors as a senior and honorable mention All-ACC honors as a junior.

A former McDonald’s All American in the 2020 class, Roach has been productive since his freshman season with the Blue Devils, but he had a breakout junior campaign in 2022-23, averaging 13.6 points per game and 3.1 assists per game, while finishing strong. He had 23 points against Virginia in the ACC title game then scored 23 against Oral Roberts in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

As a senior, Roach averaged 14.0 points and 3.3 assists while shooting 42.9% from 3-point range.. He scored in double figures in all four NCAA tournament games, with Duke getting knocked out by NC State in the Elite Eight.

This is the second huge offseason transfer portal addition for the Bears, who also picked up former Tennessee big man Jonas Aidoo.

Roach is expected to lead the backcourt in Waco, while playing alongside returning starter Jayden Nunn and Langston Love.
