Arizona State President Says He Fought For the Pac-12 ‘Til the Last Ditch’
While the Pac-12 began Saturday morning with just four current teams remaining in the conference, Arizona State president Michael Crow is taking none of the blame for the demise of the conference.
The Sun Devils elected to join the Big 12 Conference alongside the rest of the so-called “Four Corner” schools, and when asked about the league’s destruction on Saturday afternoon, Crow responded by mentioning his commitment to the league saying, “We were the stalwarts fighting for the Pac-12 till the last ditch.”
Crow was joined by Athletic Director Ray Anderson, who echoed Crow’s sentiment, saying, “I can reiterate that. The destruction of the Pac-12 is a very bad description. We had nothing to do… We were trying to save it and stayed in the trenches as long as we could until it became clear that it was no longer in our control.”
Anderson continued by expressing his disapproval of the question saying, “I take offense, very frankly, to the question, but I hope you get your answer. We were there ’til the last moment when it became clear that in the best interest of ASU and our student-athletes, it was time to make a decision, affirmatively and move.”
Arizona State now looks to set its sights on Brett Yormark and the Big 12 Conference for the future of its program as they get ready to join Colorado, Arizona, and Utah as active members in a new conference in the 2024-25 athletic year.
