Arizona State Sun Devils

Which Big 12 Football Programs are Crushing the 2025 Recruiting Trail?

NCAA Football: Oklahoma State at Central Florida

Big 12 Media Days is just right around the corner and while it may only be July, it is never too early to talk about recruiting. Of course, there will be PLENTY of football coverage and content next week, I wanted to take a look at some of the recruiting rankings in the conference as we focus on the 2025 class.

Before we get to my analysis, here’s a look at the rankings as we flip the calendar to July of 2024.

2025 Big 12 Recruiting Rankings (as of July 3, 2024)

#1 TCU

#2 West Virginia

#3 Oklahoma State

#4 Arizona State

#5 Texas Tech

#6 Houston

#7 UCF

#8 Baylor

#9 Arizona

#10 Utah

#11 Kansas

#12 Cincinnati

#13 BYU

#14 Kansas State

#15 Iowa State

#16 Colorado

If you look at the top of the 247Sports standings, you will find TCU there at No. 1. The Horned Frogs have 20 commits already and four of them are four-star prospects. Cornerback Micah Strickland, offensive tackle Logan Schram, along with edge players Chad Woodfork and Jared Martin are the headliners of TCU’s all-star class.

Perhaps one of the biggest surprises of the 2025 rankings is the West Virginia Mountaineers. While they aren’t known for having one of the best classes in the Big 12, they are currently holding down the second highest-rated class in the conference. A large part of that is due to their class size (21) but they do have a four-star prospect with running back Deandre Desinor out of Delray Beach, Florida.

Looking further down the list, you will see Oklahoma State and Arizona State, who each have a pair of four-stars in their classes. And shoutout to Arizona State, because while they may have been picked to finish last in the conference preseason poll this season, Kenny Dillingham has done a great job on the recruiting trail for the Sun Devils. It’s only going to be a matter of time before he turns that place around in the right direction.

Of course, I have to talk about the Red Raiders. Joey McGuire is well known has a great recruiter and he’s showing it again this year with three four-star players committed in his 2025 class with receivers Tristian Gentry and Bryson Jones along with hometown quarterback Lloyd Jones from Lubbock. You can say what you want about Joey McGuire during the season, but the man is building something in Lubbock.

Two more teams I want to key in on are UCF and Kansas State. The UCF Knights may not be stealing the headlines like they did with their 2024 class but they are just one of two schools with three four-star players committed and just one shy of TCU. But what really jumps out to me with UCF is their average player ranking of 88.51. That is the highest in the Big 12 and is in the Top 20 nationally. It’s not always about quantity because quality does matter.

Last but not least, I wanted to bring up Kansas State. While the Wildcats may have a highly rated class, they do have the only five-star commit in the entire Big 12 with tight end Linkon Cure out of Goodland, Kansas.

Hopefully we will see more four-star players make their way to Big 12 country and maybe even a five-star or two. We still have a long way to go before the first signing day in December, but I am sure that there will be no shortage of drama in the never-ending world of college football recruiting.
