WWE Announces Two Big 12 Teams to Receive Branded Title Belt

In an interesting story from ESPN’s Pete Thamel, two teams from the Big 12 Conference are set to receive a branded title belt.

The pair of Big 12 teams receiving the honor are the West Virginia Mountaineers and the Colorado Buffaloes, who are joined by several other historically successful college football programs.

Thamel outlined the full list of teams receiving custom belt options, including Georgia, Alabama, Texas, Michigan, Ohio State, Notre Dame, LSU, Colorado, Oklahoma, West Virginia, Penn State, North Carolina, Michigan State, Nebraska, Florida State, Florida, Tennessee, Miami, Oregon, and Kentucky.

The announcement is certainly an interesting development as the Big 12 agreed to a partnership with the WWE last season, resulting in the league champion hoisting up a custom Big 12 Championship Title Belt. Last season, Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers received the honor and was gifted the trophy from WWE legend The Undertaker.

Through this partnership, the Big 12 and WWE introduced a custom-made championship title belt for the Most Outstanding Player of the Game, which was presented to the winner following the game’s conclusion.

Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark spoke on the partnership when it was announced in November, saying, “WWE is a global brand that connects with a wide array of audiences. With this partnership, we will integrate WWE and its brand power into one of the Conference’s biggest moments, further strengthening the bridge between sports and entertainment throughout the Big 12.”

While Brett Yormark leading the Big 12 to the forefront of what’s next to come in college athletics is nothing new for fans of the league top witness, with the WWE Championship Belts being awarded to multiple programs around the country, Thamel’s report was another textbook example of Brett Yormark staying one step ahead of the pack.
