While former Colorado quarterback Joel Klatt has received criticism for being overly optimistic about his former team’s ceiling in 2024, Klatt is not shying away from his stance on the Buffaloes.
On Monday, Klatt spoke about Colorado in the latest episode of the Joel Klatt Show and outlined what success looks like in the fall.
“Now, I think to be fair to Colorado, and most people are not, I totally understand if you want to say like, ‘Hey, Joel, you played there! You’re just on the bandwagon!’. That’s fine, but I believe that negates the facts,” Klatt said. “Everybody wants to throw dirt on this program, you know, or just sing their praises from the rafters. It seems like it’s totally hyperbolic. The pendulum is wildly one way or the other.”
“Their over-under in Vegas is only 5.5. That’s way too low,” Klatt continued. “You’ve got one of the best, if not the best, college quarterbacks in the game. You’ve probably got the best-skill position player in the game, Travis Hunter. They’ve upgraded dramatically on the line of scrimmage, which is exactly where they needed to upgrade.”
Colorado’s 5.5 win total has generated a lot of buzz from sports betters and sports personalities alike attempting to place the Buffaloes above or below the marker. With North Dakota State, Nebraska, UCF, No. 18 Kansas State, No. 21 Arizona, Texas Tech, No. 12 Utah, No. 22 Kansas, and No. 17 Oklahoma State all on their schedule, finding five wins is no easy task.
Klatt finished his thoughts by saying, “They go to a bowl easy, and I say eight wins for Colorado is the definition of success. My definition of success for Colorado is eight wins. That far surpasses what Vegas thinks that they’re going to do. Yes, Colorado is in a bowl game. I’m giving them eight.”
Colorado will need to have a strong showing in the non-conference slate in order to pass the 5.5-win mark. For Deion Sanders and company, the first task to face is a sneaky good North Dakota State team on Thursday, August 29th.
