While the Big 12 Conference has loads of teams capable of winning the title in 2024, to most, Colorado is not one of them.
That statement rang true with ESPN’s Paul Finebaum, who, in a recent episode of Get Up, shot down the notion of Colorado competing for a Big 12 title this fall.
“Apparently, you’ve been drinking too many pints from Dublin,” said Finebaum. “That is simply laughable. I mean, listen, everybody loves Coach Prime. But try getting to a bowl game, okay, before you start competing for a conference championship or anything else.”
Deion Sanders and the Buffaloes had a lightning-fast start in 2023, winning each of their first three games. Shortly after, things took a turn for the worse. The Buffaloes put together a brutal stretch to end the season which resulted in the team dropping eight of their last nine games, with the lone victory coming against Arizona State.
The Buffaloes will now have a new challenge with new opponents in the Big 12. Colorado has one of the toughest schedules in the league this season, with games against each of the league’s top-five teams. Colorado is one of the only teams in the league to square up against each of the league’s five ranked teams, including No. 12 Utah, No. 17 Oklahoma State, No. 18 Kansas State, No. 21 Arizona, and No. 22 Kansas.
Finebaum finished his thoughts by saying, “I think (a bowl) is their ceiling this year, maybe break six or seven wins,” Finebaum said. “But conference championship? Not a chance.”
Colorado kicks off their season on Thursday, August 29th, vs. North Dakota State.
