Future Baylor Guard VJ Edgecombe Projected to be Top Pick in 2025 NBA Draft

Scott Drew

Class of 2024 five-star guard VJ Edgecombe committed to play for Scott Drew and the Baylor Bears over Duke, Florida, Connecticut, Michigan, and several other Power Five programs.

ESPN not only ranked the 6-foot-4 guard as the No. 3 overall prospect in the 2024 cycle, but projects him to get drafted No. 7 overall to the Houston Rockets in its latest 2025 NBA Mock Draft.

The three-level scorer was named the New York Gatorade Player of the Year, with season averages of 17.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game.

Edgecombe was a McDonald’s All American, so expectations are high in Waco after Baylor finished the 2023-24 season 24-11, placing them third in the Big 12.

Baylor’s back court will also consist of Duke transfer Jeremy Roach, who averaged 14 points and 3.3 assists for the Blue Devils last season.

The Bears have had several first-round NBA draft picks in recent years including Keyonte George, Jeremy Sochan, and Davion Mitchell. Baylor freshman Ja’Kobe Walter is projected to be a first round talent in the 2024 NBA Draft as well.

While Edgecombe is just 18 years old, he has a very polished game and can be an impact player on both sides of the court. In his senior season, the guard tallied 2.3 steals per contest.
