Report: Texas Lands South Carolina’s Player Personnel Director Drew Hughes
The Texas Longhorns continue to put together an impressive staff in Austin under new head coach Steve Sarkisian.
Texas is close to landing a staff member from South Carolina to fill out their staff in Austin, Football Scoop reports. Drew Hughes, South Carolina’s player personnel director, is expected to leave the Gamecocks for the Longhorns this week, where he will take over the same role.
Texas’ previous director of player personnel, Derek Change, announced over the weekend on Twitter that he wasn’t retained after spending four seasons working for Tom Herman, who was fired just over two weeks ago.
Football Scoop had high praise for Hughes, writing in part, “An Alabama native, Hughes was a recruiting staff member at the onset of Nick Saban’s tenure in Alabama, where Hughes helped Saban establish the Tide’s recruiting foundation that has continued throughout Saban’s dominant run at Alabama.”
Sarkisian continues to raid the SEC and is putting together an impressive staff that includes multiple members from the staff he worked on at Alabama. But there are now wives of at least one of the new hires who is vocally putting even more pressure on this coaching staff. While we love the coaching staff in Austin, humility is probably the best play at this point.
