Cincinnati Lands Indiana Transfer QB Brendan Sorsby
Year 1 in the Big 12 was not kind to Scott Satterfield and the Cincinnati Bearcats, who went 3-9 in 2023 and missed a bowl game for the first time since 2016.
While they had several issues on the roster this season, most UC fans will point to quarterback Emory Jones as the main culprit for a disappointing year. In 12 starts, Jones completed 61.2% of his passes for 2,219 yards and 18 TDs with 10 INTs, adding 560 yards and four scores on the ground.
His dynamic ability as a playmaker wasn’t enough to offset the untimely turnovers and bad decisions, and it led to several losses in close games. The Bearcats were 1-4 in one-possession games this season, and Jones committed five total turnovers in those games alone.
Jones is out of eligibility now, which leaves Cincinnati with a question at quarterback, but it appears that they’ve found their answer, and once again, it comes via the transfer portal.
On Wednesday, Indiana quarterback Brendan Sorsby declared his commitment to the Bearcats, and is the first major pickup for Satterfield’s staff in the 2024 cycle.
In seven starts in 2023, Sorsby threw for 1,587 yards and 15 touchdowns with five interceptions, adding 286 yards and four touchdowns on the ground.
Listed at 6-foot-3, 230 pounds, Sorsby just finished up his freshman year and will have three years of eligibility to work with at UC, which is an exciting prospect given his production in such a young career.
The youngster will need to improve his accuracy (57.2%) and his QBR of 57.6 (72nd nationally) will need to come up a ways, but the addition gives the Cincinnati offensive staff a stable piece to build around heading into a pivotal 2024 season.
