Despite receiving interest from several Power Five powerhouse programs, Kansas State men’s basketball head coach Jerome Tang decided to sign an extension that would keep him in Manhattan through the 2031 season.
Tang, who is coming off his second season as head coach with the Wildcats, has already produced several NBA talents, including Marquis Nowell (Raptors) and Keyontae Johnson (OC Thunder).
Entering his third year at the helm, Tang has put together a 45-25 overall record, highlighted by an Elite 8 appearance in 2022-23.
Tang hopped on The Drive podcast, hosted by Carrington Harrison, to talk about his decision to stay. The head coach said, “My family and I, we love the time in Manhattan.”
“The K-State family has just embraced us as their own,” Tang added. “Both of my kids are students here at K-State. My parents moved from Florida to Manhattan, so this is what we call home.”
He credited his experiences as an assistant coach for why he did not leave for a new job, saying, “As an assistant for a long time, I would watch other guys take jobs and then move to other jobs, and I would always tell myself, sometimes you just don’t want to mess with happy.”
“We are happy, and we are excited to be here and happy to be a part of this great family.”
