Watch: Baylor’s VJ Edgecombe Shines Among NBA Players for Team Bahamas

NCAA Basketball: NIT Season Tip-Off Championship

Baylor freshman VJ Edgecombe has been showing out for the Bahamas Men’s National Team in the first phase of Olympic basketball alongside some seasoned veterans of the NBA.

On Tuesday, Edgecombe was praised by ESPN’s Fran Fraschilla for his performance in the opening rounds of the Olympics.

“It’s too early to anoint him, but Baylor has a potentially special player in Bahamian VJ Edgecombe,” Fraschilla said. “On a team with NBA players, DeAndre Ayton, Eric Gordon, and Buddy Hield, the young man was pretty good.”

Coming out of Long Island Lutheran High School in the Class of 2025, Edgecombe is listed as a five-star prospect by the 247Sports index and the nation’s fourth-ranked player. He also checks in as the top-ranked player at his position and the top-ranked player in the state of New York.

247Sports Director of Scouting Adam Finkelstein spoke on the impressive guard, saying, “Edgecombe is an athletic scorer on the wing with developing guard skills. He’s a terror in transition who puts a ton of pressure on the rim and can rise up for the type of highlight finishes that few others can make. He’s also a well-rounded athlete with quick reactions throughout his floor game, multiple jumps, and natural strength even as he continues to fill out his frame.”

Edgecombe’s decision to commit to Baylor was a massive one for a program that is known for consistently developing top NBA prospects. Should the New York native get selected in the lottery of the 2025 NBA Draft, the team will have placed a player in the lottery in each of the previous four drafts.
