While Kansas head coach Lance Leipold deserves all of the credit in the world for revamping the Jayhawks’ football program, in a Monday afternoon story, Barstool Sports CEO Dave Portnoy tried to give the credit to former coach Les Miles.
In a recent episode of the Barstool Pick Em Podcast, the trio of hosts were discussing Kansas’ drastic turnaround which prompted Portnoy to say, “I’m kind of buying Les Miles over there at Kansas.
The conversation between Portnoy, Barstool’s Big Cat, and Barstool’s Rico Bosco is listed below.
Portnoy: “I’m kind of buying Les Miles over there at Kansas a little bit.”
Big Cat: “Yeah, he’s not there; he hasn’t been there for a while.
Portnoy: “Well, who’s there?”
Bosco: “Leipold. This guy named Lance Leipold.”
Big Cat: “Les Miles, are you sitting down for this?”
Portnoy: “He’s dead?’
Big Cat: “He did some f***** up s*** and got canceled and got fired in disgrace from Kansas”
Portnoy: “Well, I’m glad we got this other guy in there then. Whoever this guy is, I’m buying it.”
Leipold was hired at Kansas in 2021 after the team fired Les Miles. While many coaches have attempted to do what no one else could, Lance Leipold made it happen and has brought Kansas Football to life. Since taking over in Lawrence, Leipold holds an overall record of 17-21, and his 17 are one shy of the win total from the previous 10 seasons at Kansas.
The Jayhawks enter the 2024 season with one of the most talented teams in the Leipold era and should have a shot at competing for a league championship if they can avoid any serious injuries. The Jayhawks kick off their season on Thursday, August 29th, against Lindenwood.
