Steve Sarkisian Criticizes Texas’ Depth on the Defensive Line
After having one of the nation’s best defensive fronts in 2023, Steve Sarkisian isn’t holding back regarding Texas‘ defensive line depth in 2024.
Sarkisian spoke to members of the media on Saturday following the conclusion of Texas’ spring game and mentioned that the depth on the defensive line isn’t where it should be.
“The depth on the defensive line is not where we need it to be,” Sarkisian said. “Hopefully, we can address that.”
The Longhorns lost an impressive class of athletes in their front seven, with both Byron Murphy and T’Vondre Sweat entering the NFL Draft. Sarkisian addressed the losses of Murphy and Sweat by attacking the transfer portal hard in search of some talented players on the defensive line.
Sarkisian landed two major prospects through the transfer portal, UTSA Edge Trey Moore and Arizona defensive lineman Tiaoalii Savea. The additions helped contribute to Texas landing the nation’s seventh-ranked class of incoming transfers.
While replacing the production of two unanimous First-Team All-Big 12 defensive linemen is no easy task, Sarkisian will have to figure it out fast if the Longhorns are to compete in the SEC.
