Felix Anudike-Uzomah Selected No. 31 by Kansas City Chiefs in NFL Draft
The Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs capped off the first round by going with a local selection in Kansas State Wildcats EDGE Felix Anudike-Uzomah with the 31st pick.
And their selection of Anudike-Uzomah caps off an enormous night for the Big 12 Conference, which had six total selections. Texas Tech Red Raiders EDGE rusher Tyree Wilson (Las Vegas Raiders, No. 7), Texas Longhorns running back Bijan Robinson (Atlanta Falcons, No. 8), Iowa State Cyclones EDGE rusher Will McDonald (New York Jets, No. 15) and TCU Horned Frogs wide receiver Quentin Johnston (Los Angeles Chargers, No. 21) and Oklahoma Sooners offensive tackle Anton Harrison (Jacksonville Jaguars, No. 27) all went as well this evening.
As for Anudike-Uzomah, over his three-year career at Kansas State, he piled up 20.5 sacks, 26.5 tackles for loss, and eight forced fumbles.
In Mel Kiper’s latest mock draft, he had Anudike-Uzomah is selected early in the second round. But the great Wildcats’ pass rusher snuck up into the final pick of the first.
“Anudike-Uzomah, who had 19.5 sacks over the past two seasons, has a chance to sneak into the first round,” Kiper said. “At 6-3, 255 pounds, he still is developing his pass-rush moves. He plays through the whistle and can hold his own in the run game. He has the versatility to play in a 3-4 or 4-3 defense.”
The Chiefs did also end up bringing in San Francisco 49ers pass rusher Charles Omenihu recently to plug the absence on the defensive line left by the departure of Frank Clark, but the rookie Anudike-Uzomah could come in and compete for a day one job now.
