Rece Davis Calls Out Deion Sanders for This Reason

NCAA Football: Rose Bowl-Alabama at Michigan

During the first broadcast of ESPN’s College GameDay for the 2024 season, Rece Davis jokingly called out Colorado head coach Deion Sanders for banning a local reporter.

On Friday, the Buffaloes announced that the Denver Post’s Sean Keeler was permanently banned from asking questions at Colorado press conferences.

While watching a film in a GameDay segment, former NFL quarterback EJ Manuel discussed the game film with Florida State quarterback DJ Giagalelei and complimented him on his accuracy and decision-making.

When discussing a specific sideline throw, Manuel said, “I don’t care if it’s Champ Bailey, I don’t care if it’s Deion Sanders. It doesn’t matter. DB’s can’t cover this stuff, man.”

Following Manuel’s statement, the feed cut back to the main GameDay broadcast crew just in time to hear Rece Davis jokingly call out Deion Sanders.

“Oh no, EJ said it didn’t matter if it was Deion Sanders,” Davis said. “He’s not going to be able to ask any more questions. I’m just kidding.”

Davis’ joke came in reference to a Friday announcement that Colorado banned Sean Keeler from asking questions to Deion Sanders due to “personal attacks.” The report alleges that Colorado took offense to Keeler’s use of descriptions like “Deposition Deion,” the “Bruce Lee of B.S.” and a “false prophet,” as well as his use of phrases like “Planet Prime,” “the Deion Kool-Aid” and “circus.”

While the story has had its fair share of press coverage, in just five days, Deion Sanders and company will hope to create some new headlines about their on-field performance instead of their off-the-field antics.
