After spending one season at Ohio State as a backup quarterback in Ryan Day’s system, Quinn Ewers elected to leave the program for Texas.
In a recent interview with former Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III, Ewers revealed what he learned from his time with the Buckeyes and his thoughts on the program.
“I mean, I learned a whole lot through Coach Day,” Ewers said. “We had some good quarterbacks in that room, and, you know, I learned a lot from CJ Stroud and how to prepare for games and whatnot. It was just, it was a good experience, but at the end of the day, just wasn’t the right fit for me.”
Ewers eventually made the decision to transfer to Texas and became the starter in Austin for Steve Sarkisian. As a freshman in 2022, Ewers threw for 2,177 yards and a touchdown to interception ratio of 15-6, which helped him earn some national praise as a rising sophomore.
The Texas native will now play football in the SEC in 2024, which is the third conference Ewers will play in. Ohio State and Texas enter the upcoming season with College Football Playoff hopes as the Buckeyes now turn to former Kansas State quarterback Will Howard for the foreseeable future.
Ewers and the Longhorns will take the field for the first time in 2024 on Saturday, August 31st, against Colorado State.
