Texas Tech’s Pop Isaacs Enters Transfer Portal
One of the biggest names to hit the portal this offseason from the Big 12 Conference took place on Saturday night with Texas Tech‘s Pop Isaacs entering his name into the transfer portal.
Isaacs, a 6-foot-2 sophomore from Las Vegas, Nevada, was one of the league’s best guards in 2023-24 and earned All-Big 12 Second-Team honors.
Isaacs is coming off of a successful sophomore year in Lubbock where he averaged 15.8 points, 3.5 assists, and 3.2 rebounds per game on 34.9% shooting from the field. His best game of the season came against No. 20 BYU on January 20th when he posted 32 points, five rebounds, and four assists in the team’s 85-78 win.
While Isaacs has shown elite flashes of ability on the court, the addition of Isaacs through the transfer portal does come with a bit of bad press. Isaacs was accused of sexually assaulting a minor while on the team’s trip to the Bahamas for the Battle 4 Atlantis back in November. While Isaacs did not miss any time on the court for his actions, the situation made for a stressful situation for all involved parties.
As Isaacs gets set to start fresh with a new program in 2024-25, Grant McCasland will now have a major hole to fill in the team’s starting lineup. Still, with this offseason shaping up to include one of the busiest portal cycles in college basketball history, McCasland should have some options available for replacement.
