The Sooners dominated Tulsa 52-7. They were good on offense and good on defense. But there was room for improvement, and the grades reflect it.
START: A
For the second straight week, the Sooners were dominant early, outscoring Tulsa 21-0 in the first quarter. OU scored three touchdowns in the first 13:02 and forced three Tulsa punts in the first 10 minutes. In the first quarter, Tulsa had two first downs and 32 total yards. OU had 12 first downs and 241 total yards.
LOB BALLS: C
OU flanker Sterling Shepard showed early that he could get behind the Tulsa secondary, and Knight went to him eight times on deep balls. But Knight’s floaters were mostly a little short. Shepard never had the chance to run under any of the throws; he nabbed two, for 39 and 48 yards, and received a dubious pass interference penalty. But the opportunity was there for more.
RUNNING GAME: A
OU tailbacks combined for 210 yards on 25 carries. And even taking away Alex Ross’ 82-yard TD run, that’s 128 yards on 24 carries. Keith Ford was splendid, with 87 yards on just 10 carries. On the only designed quarterback run, Knight scampered 31 yards for a touchdown. That’s 241 yards on 26 called runs.
