Sooners schedule Houston: OU has a new 2016 season opener — the Sooners will travel to the Houston Texans’ NRG Stadium to play the University of Houston on Sept. 3.
“The greater Houston area has long been a stronghold of support for OU,” athletic director Joe Castiglione said. “We are excited to showcase our program in one of the nation’s largest markets and an NFL venue that has hosted the Super Bowl.”
Houston joins Ohio State and Louisiana–Monroe on OU’s non-conference schedule in 2016. The Buckeyes will pay Norman a visit, before the Sooners travel to Columbus in 2017. The OU-ULM game, which originally was scheduled as the Sooners’ 2016 opener to christen OU’s renovated Owen Field, will be played Sept. 10.
