West Virginia Signs Neal Brown to Two-Year Contract Extension
Neal Brown received more job security from West Virginia this week after agreeing to a two-year contract extension, which keeps him in Morgantown through the 2026 season.
In a press release, WVU athletic director Shane Lyons made the announcement regarding Brown, who has four years remaining on his original deal. Lyons said, “Coach Brown and I are committed to the future success of our football program. I am pleased with the upward trajectory of the program and its culture. Our student-athletes have excelled on the field and in the classroom, and the overall leadership of Mountaineer football is strong.”
The six-year deal is worth $23.85 million, meaning Brown will average an annual salary of just under $4 million ($3,975,000 to be exact).
Brown said, “I want to thank President Gee, Shane and Keli Zinn for their unwavering support of our football program. I also want to thank our players, coaches and staff for their commitment and dedication to West Virginia University. As we enter year three, I look forward to getting our fans back in the stadium and building on the momentum we have going in our program.”
Brown also got more money for his staff, which has been increased to $4 million.
Brown has been the head coach for the past two seasons, taking over for Dana Holgorsen, and is 11-11 overall and 7-10 in Big 12 play.
WVU finished 6-4 last season and defeated Army in the Liberty Bowl. Brown came to WVU from Troy, where he coached for four seasons and went 35-16 over four seasons.
