Texas Signs Five-Star WR Ryan Wingo Despite Late Pushes From Missouri, Nebraska
Ryan Wingo is one of the top players in the country regardless of position and is the No. 12 player in the country according to 247Sports.
Listed at 6-foot-2, 205 pounds, Wingo is the No. 4 wide receiver in the 2024 class and the No. 2 overall player in the state of Missouri. The Longhorns found a way to sway Wingo away from the in-state Missouri Tigers, despite them being the school with all the predictions.
Now, getting him signed was the most nerve-wracking part of the process though, as the verbal commitment was one thing, but keeping Missouri and a late-emerging Nebraska team out of Wingo’s ear proved difficult.
Most players sign with their respective teams on “Early Signing Day,” or the first day of the early signing period. Some players will wait until the second or third day to sign on the dotted line, and still yet others will hold off until February to shut it down.
In Wingo’s case, it couldn’t come soon enough for the Longhorns, and when he finally did so around noon on Wednesday, folks in and around Austin could breathe a sigh of relief.
Missouri and Nebraska did everything they could to change Wingo’s decision, but in the end, it was Texas who won the commitment of the Kansas City talent.
The Longhorns are gearing up for a date with Washington in the College Football Playoff semifinal on New Year’s Day, their first-ever trip to the CFP. Coverage will begin at 7:45 on ESPN, live from the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, LA.
