Oklahoma Adds Florida State Transfer K Tyler Keltner

NCAA Football: Oklahoma at Baylor

Oklahoma has seen its fair share of special teams blunders over the past two seasons, many of which cost them games with missed field goals or poor kickoff attempts.

Zach Schmit has handled virtually all placekicking duties over that span, and after continued issues down the stretch, it became apparent that the Sooners would need to make some additions via high school recruiting and potentially the transfer portal.

On Thursday, Oklahoma did just that, adding a commitment from Florida State kicker Tyler Keltner, a graduate transfer who has just one year of eligibility remaining.

Keltner was not a starter during his time with Florida State, and made the only extra point attempt that he took while in Tallahassee. However, he does bring a wealth of experience to the table from four seasons with East Tennessee State.

There, Keltner made 56 of 74 field goal attempts (75.7%), including an ETSU record and career-long 54-yarder, and all 131 of his extra-point attempts. During his time with ETSU, Keltner earned First-Team All-Conference honors twice, and second-team honors once.

Keltner’s addition to the roster will give the Sooners someone to push Zach Schmit, but also a player that has just one year of eligibility. That’s worth noting because OU also has a commitment in the class of 2024 from Liam Evans, the No. 7 kicker in the class, according to Kohl’s Kicking Camps.
