Quinn Ewers to Return for Texas in 2024
For Texas fans hoping that 2024 marks the beginning of the Arch Manning era in Austin, it looks like you might have to wait another year.
Longhorns’ quarterback Quinn Ewers announced that he will return for the 2024 season on Thursday, throwing the Texas quarterback room into a bit of a flux when it comes to what things will look like moving forward.
Ewers made the announcement via Twitter, giving Texas fans another reason to be excited about their first season in the SEC.
Ewers is coming off the best season of his career, which ended in a 37-31 loss to Washington in the College Football Playoff semifinals. It was the Longhorns’ first trip to the CFP and capped what was a resurgent year for the program.
Leading his team to a 12-2 record and a Big 12 Championship, Ewers completed 69% of his attempts for 3,479 yards and 22 touchdowns to just six interceptions. He also developed into a situational threat as a runner as well, with five rushing scores on the season.
Having an experienced quarterback coming into the 2024 season will be a major boost for a team that is set to lose the rest of its major offensive contributors, save for true freshman running back Cedric Baxter, who became the starter after Jonathon Brooks went down.
With Steve Sarkisian leading a recruiting monster into the SEC though, there will be plenty of talent around Ewers to have success yet again next season. Now, it will be interesting to see how Sark balances the dynamic between two of the highest-rated quarterback recruits in history, but that’s why he gets paid the big bucks.
Texas will open the 2024 season with a home tilt against Colorado State before hitting the road to take on the defending national champion Michigan Wolverines in Ann Arbor in Week 2.
