While rumors surrounding UConn joining the Big 12 continue to spiral, many discussing the move have one question: are the Huskies taking football seriously?
The answer appears to be yes, as on Monday, the Huskies became the first college football team to put their NIL Collective logo on the football field.
The collective, UConn’s Storrs Central, has signed a one-year on-field partnership deal with the Bleeding Blue For Good NIL collective in association with UConn Football.
“In the era of NIL, it’s never been more important to proactively promote unique opportunities for our student-athletes,” UConn AD David Benedict told On3’s Pete Nakos. “Bleeding Blue for Good and Storrs Central have been great partners as we navigate the continually changing landscape of college athletics.”
UConn has made some major headlines over the past 72 hours with reports breaking that Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark is allegedly meeting with Big 12 ADs and Chancellors in an effort to pitch the Huskies as a major asset to the league.
While the idea of UConn joining the Big 12 in a new wave of realignment has its fair share of skeptics, the league’s plans of adding UConn Football in 2031 and all other sports in 2026 have helped to silence some doubters.
The reports should come as no surprise, as Yormark continues to express interest in decoupling basketball from football in TV negotiations in hopes of adding more value to the Big 12’s product.
