Brent Venables and the Oklahoma Sooners made a big addition to their 2025 recruiting class on Monday after landing a commitment from four-star wide receiver Marcus Harris.
Listed at 5-foot-11, 183 pounds, Harris ranks as the No. 29 wide receiver and No. 147 player in the country, according to Rivals. A product of Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana (CA), Harris exhibits all the qualities of an elite pass-catching target at the college level and has interest from over 30 programs across the country.
The Sooners seemed to sneak in and steal Harris’ commitment, as he was heavily favored to land with either UCLA or Texas, but also had big interest from Oregon and Georgia. Then, when Oklahoma extended an offer on Thursday, June 13, things changed. After an official visit over the weekend, Harris had seen enough to shut his recruitment down.
According to On3’s Hayes Fawcett, Harris pointed to his relationship with Oklahoma’s coaching staff—namely WR coach Emmett Jones and Coach Venables—as the reason why it was OU that won the day.
“I would really say the coaching staff,” Harris told On3. “I feel like Coach Jones, Coach Venables and the rest of the staff had a plan for me. I really felt needed and wanted. Also, when I stepped foot on campus, it just felt like home.”
With Harris’ commitment, Oklahoma now holds the No. 4 class in the 2025 cycle, trailing Ohio State, Alabama, and Notre Dame for the lead. Harris is the 16th commitment in the class, and joins QB Kevin Sperry and WR Elijah Thomas as some of the higher-rated pledges for the Sooners.
