Social Media Roasts Steve Sarkisian for Saying: ‘NIL Should Be Last Reason Players Come to a School’

Oklahoma Sooners head coach Brent Venables, at right, and Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian talk before the Red River Showdown college football game between the University of Oklahoma (OU) and Texas at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Saturday, Oct. 8, 2022.

In a recent interview with FOX Sports’ Joel Klatt, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian, known for greeting incoming prospects with Lamborghinis, elected to downplay the importance of NIL in recruiting top athletes.

Sarkisian mentioned that “NIL doesn’t come up. That should be the last reason to choose to go to a school, whether it’s Texas or any other school.”

Social media quickly responded to Sarkisian’s hypocritical comments, calling out the Longhorns’ head coach for Texas utilizing NIL more than most programs nationwide. Shortly after the comments went viral, individuals across all walks of social media chimed in with a flurry of reactions and responses, and here were some of the best takes on the situation.
