Conference realignment has been a hot-button topic in college football for years, but over the past two seasons, it has reached a new level.

In 2024, we will see a shakeup of proportions that we’ve never seen. Oregon, Washington, UCLA, and USC are headed to the Big Ten. Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, and Utah are headed to the Big 12. Oklahoma and Texas are headed to the SEC. Stanford, Cal, and SMU are ACC-bound.

Geography has taken a backseat to cash flow at this point, and unfortunately, that’s probably not changing anytime soon.

Things would certainly look different in a perfect world, and there are many different opinions out there on the topic. One of the most widely-reaching opinions out there is that of Josh Pate, host of the Late Kick podcast, the top college football show out there.

On Thursday, Pate created the “Perfect College Football Conferences” in the event that he becomes CFB commissioner in the future.

Take a look:

The Big 12 has been reduced to the “Big 8” (blast from the past), but its membership looks a bit different than it did in the 80s.

How would you feel about this conference? It does have an interesting feel to it, as all of those programs seem to fit in a similar mold. There are a lot of tough, hard-nosed programs in there, led by K-State, Utah, and Oklahoma State.

Meanwhile, the rest of the current Big 12 is spread out amongst the other conferences, with the majority of it fitting into the Southwest Conference.

West Virginia, Cincinnati, and UCF find themselves in the Big East, while BYU is back to being an independent.
