Tim Brando on the Big 12: ‘It’s Going to Be, Top to Bottom, the Best League in the Country’

On Wednesday, FOX Sports play-by-play broadcaster Tim Brando sat down with Heartland College Sports to talk about the 2024 Big 12 college football season.

With Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, and Utah officially moving to the Big 12, the conference consists of some of the teams in the country.

West Virginia shocked the nation in 2023 as the team went 9-4, along with Oklahoma State who finished second in the conference with a record of 10-4.

“It’s going to be, top to bottom, the best league in the country,” Brando said. “But they need somebody to get some big wins in the non-conference early.”

If no Big 12 program picks up a non-conference win early, Brando noted that the narrative around the conference will be that “It’s really competitive, top the bottom it might be the best league, or bottom to top as I like to say, but is it good, really good, or is it just mediocre?”

Nine Big 12 teams finished with six or more victories last season, and with Oklahoma and Texas moving to the SEC, there are no clear favorites who will win the conference title.

The conference has sent a team to the College Football Playoff in two-straight seasons with TCU in 2022-23 and Texas in 2023-24.
