On Tuesday, two teams from the Big 12 Conference were listed on the final seven cutdown list for 2025 five-star guard Meleek Thomas.
A pair of in-state rivals, Kansas and Kansas State, earned spots on Thomas’ list, alongside UConn, Alabama, Pittsburgh, Auburn, and Arkansas.
Coming out of Overtime Elite in the Class of 2025, Thomas is listed as a five-star prospect by the 247Sports index and the nation’s sixth-ranked player. He also checks in as the second-ranked combo guard in the nation and the second-ranked player in the state of Georgia.
In a recent recap story with 247Sports’ Brandon Jenkins, Thomas discussed both teams in the Sunflower State and what he likes about each program.
“They produce a lot of professionals,” Thomas said about Kansas. “They take everything seriously, have nationally-televised games, and are known for winning. I could see myself playing well there in a big role. They have a winning culture.”
“They are a loving program with an all-African-American staff,” Thomas said about Kansas State. “I hear a lot from them, and they have been recruiting me from the jump. They tell me how it may be a long shot to get me but they feel they can get me to the league with me being their guy.”
While both teams will still have a tough road ahead to land the impressive five-star, both teams from the Sunflower State have made the conversation and should expect visits from Thomas.
