Elimination games at the Women’s College World Series tend to have all kinds of drama and incredible moments, and today’s contest between Oklahoma and Florida has been no different.
Heading into the fifth inning, Florida held a 5-4 lead with all nine runs coming via home run. Designated player Ella Parker was the leadoff batter for the Sooners in the bottom half of the inning and was able to make good contact.
After the ball ricocheted off of the outfield wall, Parker rounded first and went for the two-bagger. A good turn from the Florida outfielder made it a close play, and what happened next was a scary moment for both teams and both fan bases.
A massive collision between Parker and Gators’ shortstop Skylar Wallace left both players on the ground for several moments and clearly in pain.
Eventually, both players were able to get to their feet as Parker was escorted back to the dugout and Wallace walked it off and went back to her spot in the field to finish out the inning.
The Gators held Oklahoma scoreless in the inning despite the double—which was later scored an E6—with no outs.
The winner of this game will advance to play Texas in the WCWS Finals, which will start on Wednesday, June 5.
