Is there anything better than cold beer and baseball? It’s a combination that is hard to beat during the season. No matter what kind of beer you drink (or how many), let’s take a look at some of the best action on the Big 12 baseball diamond from Saturday with a nice six pack. Due to some weather issues, there were two games that weren’t able to be completed and will be played on Sunday.

Best Game

Houston at Cincinnati

I don’t often get a chance to talk about these two teams, but they had the most interesting game in the Big 12 on Saturday. The Cougars got things rolling in the second inning as they put up four runs thanks to Tre Jones and Coldy DeJesus.

Cincinnati would score their first run of the game when Max Palmieri drove in a run with his RBI single.

The Bearcats ended up scoring two more in the sixth with the help of a bases loaded walk and a sac-fly. That helped pull Cincinnati within one.

Lauden Brooks would tie the game in the seventh before Landyn Vidourek’s clutch hit put the Bearcats on top.

That ended up being enough to win the game for Cincinnati and the series.

Best Win

Oklahoma over BYU

This may not seem like a big win for the Sooners, but it was. Bryce Madron had a big day which I will get to later in this article and the pitching staff really buckled down after the second inning. With this win, Oklahoma completed the sweep over BYU and are now winners of six in a row in conference play. And speaking of conference play, Oklahoma sits alone at the top with an impressive 14-4 record.

Worst Loss

Oklahoma State

I wanted to put TCU here, but nothing was more disappointing than Oklahoma State on Saturday. After dropping game one on Friday night against Kansas State, the Wildcats took game two of this series with ease. Kansas State got the best of Oklahoma State pitcher Brian Holiday while their guy Jackson Wentworth was excellent. This was a big series win for Kansas State because they were trending in the wrong direction heading into the weekend. As for Oklahoma State, this was a huge missed opportunity.

Saturday MVP

Oklahoma RF Bryce Madron

Bryce had a big day for the Sooners as he finished the game with a whopping seven RBIs including two home runs. BYU had no answer for him at all.

Best Pitcher

Texas LHP Ace Whitehead

Ace pitched six full innings against TCU and gave up only three hits on the evening. It was a much-needed performance for Texas, especially after their Friday night loss.

Best Home Run

Oklahoma RF Bryce Madron

Bryce hit two of these on Saturday, but this one was my favorite.
