Big 12 Baseball Saturday Six-Pack: Kansas Takes the Series Against Texas Tech
Is there anything better than cold beer and baseball? It’s a combination that is hard to beat during the season. No matter what kind of beer you drink (or how many), let’s take a look at some of the best action on the Big 12 baseball diamond from Saturday with a nice six-pack. Due to some bad weather, a few games had to either get pushed up or pushed back for Sunday.
BEST GAME
Cincinnati at UCF
For the second day in a row, this game takes the award for the best game of the day. Cincinnati got things started in the third inning, putting up two runs thanks to Dalton Pearson. Dalton hit a triple to bring in a run and then scored on a wild pitch to put the Bearcats up 2-0.
The Knights would finally get on the board in the fifth inning with Jack Zyska’s RBI single.
Zyska followed that up with a three-run blast in the seventh inning, and suddenly, UCF had a 4-2 lead.
And Dylan King also had something to say about that with his key hit.
It was a good win for UCF, evening the series and setting up the rubber match for Sunday.
BEST WIN
Kansas over Texas Tech
After a wild walk-off on Friday night, Kansas followed that up with a dominating 11-2 win over Texas Tech. It was a 4-2 game in favor of Kansas going into the fifth inning. But in that fifth inning, the Jayhawks went crazy as they scored five runs to make it a 9-2 game, and they never looked back. This was a huge win for Kansas as they take the series and look to complete the sweep on Sunday.
WORST LOSS
Texas Tech
I know I just talked about this game, but this was a very disappointing weekend for the Red Raiders in Lawrence. They got their hearts ripped out on Friday night and then got absolutely crushed on Saturday. Now they must win on Sunday to avoid being swept by Kansas. This should have been a good weekend for Texas Tech and so far, it has been a total nightmare.
SATURDAY MVP
Kansas LF Chase Jans
Chase finished the game against Texas Tech with four RBIs which included this two-run blast in the eighth inning.
PITCHER OF THE DAY
West Virginia LHP Derek Clark
It seems like Clark wins this award every time he pitches. On Saturday against Baylor, he pitched eight full innings and struck out eight batters.
BEST HOME RUN
UCF RF Jack Zyska
Zyska’s three-run bomb in the seventh inning totally flipped the game for UCF.
