Big 12 Baseball Sunday Six-Pack: Texas Takes Down Oklahoma While Kansas and West Virginia Complete Sweeps
Is there anything better than cold beer and baseball? It’s a combination that is hard to beat during the season. No matter what kind of beer you drink (or how many), let’s take a look at some of the best action on the Big 12 baseball diamond from Sunday with a nice six-pack. Due to some bad weather, a few games had to get moved around.
Best Game
Texas at #18 Oklahoma
After taking game one of Sunday’s doubleheader 8-6, game two was filled with much more drama on and off the field. It was a nonstop scoring fest in Norman that was wildly entertaining.
Texas got the game started with a two-run blast from Peyton Powell.
But Oklahoma quickly answered back.
Texas ended up taking a 6-1 lead after a pair of homers.
But once again, the Sooners responded by putting up four runs in the third inning.
Both teams would trade home runs over the next few innings and Texas took a 12-8 lead after a Max Belyeu homer.
And guess what? Oklahoma responded with some runs of their own.
Unfortunately, due to some bad weather moving in, the game had to be called in the seventh inning and would end up with Texas winning 12-10 to take the series.
While this was big for Texas, it stinks that this game couldn’t finish because who knows what would have happened in two more innings because this game was crazy.
Best Win
Kansas and West Virginia
I wanted to make sure that I included both teams here because both of them completed sweeps on Sunday. Kansas finished strong beating Texas Tech 7-3 while West Virginia took down Baylor with ease, winning 13-4.
This was big for both teams because they are right in the mix for the Big 12 regular season title. Especially after Oklahoma lost two of three to Texas. With less than a month left of conference play, these two teams have positioned themselves well.
Worst Loss
Texas Tech
I said the same thing for Saturday, but this weekend was a total disappointment for the Red Raiders. Coming into the weekend, they had a 12-9 Big 12 record and were still in contention for a Big 12 title. Now they fall to 12-12 after a bad weekend in Lawrence. If they want to make the postseason, they better have a bounce back weekend next week.
Sunday MVP
Houston RF Cary Arbolida
Cary had a big day against UT Arlington finishing with a whopping five RBIs including this three-run blast.
Pitcher of the Day
Kansas RHP Ethan Lanthier
Ethan came in to help save the day for Kansas. He pitched almost five inning and didn’t give up a single run.
Best Home Run
Texas OF Will Gasparino
Will’s homer in game one helped put Texas on top 6-5 in the sixth inning.
