Four Big 12 Women’s Teams Remain in AP Top 25

The Big 12 held steady with four teams in the AP Top 25 Women’s Basketball Top 25, released on Monday after Week 1 of the season.

Four Big 12 teams started the season in the Top 25 preseason poll.

Those teams included:

 

Texas at No. 3 (No. 3 in the AP preseason Top 25);

Iowa State at No. 7 (No. 8 in the preseason);

Oklahoma at No. 16 (No. 15 in the preseason);

Baylor at No. 17 (No. 18 in the preseason).

Kansas received 25 votes in the preseason poll and received 13 votes on Monday.

Texas (1-0) defeated Louisiana in its season opener on Friday. The Longhorns face UConn on Monday and then head to the Battle 4 Atlantis in The Bahamas this weekend.

Iowa State (2-0) won both games last week and have two players — guard/forward Ashley Joens and center Stephanie Soares — averaging double-doubles after the first week. The Cyclones are at Northern Iowa on Wednesday and host Columbia on Sunday.

Oklahoma (2-0) will be in Utah all week. The Sooners face future Big 12 rival BYU on Tuesday and then face Utah on Wednesday. The Sooners make it a three-game week by hosting UT Arlington on Sunday.

Baylor (2-0) opens the week by hosting SMU on Tuesday. Then, on Sunday, the Bears host nationally-ranked Maryland in a rematch of a game from last season.

No. 1 South Carolina, No. 2 Stanford, No. 3 Texas, No. 4 Iowa, No. 5 UConn, No. 6 Louisville, No. 7 Iowa State, No. 8 Ohio State, No. 9 Notre Dame, No. 10 NC State, No. 11 Tennessee, No. 12 Indiana, No. 13 North Carolina, No. 14 Virginia Tech, No. 15 LSU, No. 16 Oklahoma, No. 17 Baylor, No. 18 Arizona, No. 19 Maryland, No. 20 Creighton, No. 21 Oregon, No. 22 Nebraska, No. 23 Michigan, No. 24 Villanova, No. 25 Utah.

Big 12 teams receiving votes: Kansas, 13.
